Old Sutter Creek Flea Market to Launch Third Sunday event at The Italian Picnic Grounds

Peter Torres and his wife Mary Panzarino

The Old Sutter Creek Flea Market is a new flea market for Northern California that will offer a unique new outlet for dealers as well as independent sellers and members of the public.

It also promises to be a popular activity for collectors, vintage enthusiasts and community members of all ages.

Amador County has long been known as one of Northern California’s best destinations for antiques and collectibles, but it has lacked an on-going local flea market like other surrounding communities have.

Local business owner, Peter Torres, is about to change that. Torres is the co-owner of Tigby Hill Vintage in Sutter Creek and a veteran antique and memorabilia dealer with more than 30 years of experience in Southern California at:
  • Pasadena City College Flea Market
  • The Rose Bowl Flea Market
  • Long Beach Flea Market
  • The All American Collector Show.
He recalls the magic of walking into his very first flea market as a kid, “and when I walked down the aisle—I couldn’t believe the variety of items—vintage toys, bicycles—and I remember that everyone was having a good time.”

His uncle owned a junk store, and when he was 8, he remembers sitting on the tailgate of his uncle’s truck. His uncle instructed him “If anyone tries to take anything, just start yelling.” Torres grins, “I would get a silver dollar and all the toys—I think that is why I still love vintage toys.”

Torres was surprised that Amador County didn’t have an established flea market when he and his wife Mary Panzarino (a professional mosaic artist and a dealer at The Agoura Antique Mart in Southern California) established their shop, Tigby Hill Vintage, in Sutter Creek. “Sutter Creek is the right venue, and Amador deserves a great monthly market.” Torres talked with fellow shop owners, dealers and collectors from across California, as well as folks at local yard sales.

Torres also got feedback from visitors to their shop and at annual events like Dandelion Days and Trash-to-Treasures.

His conversations convinced him that there is a need for a regular outlet for sellers, and plenty of locals eager to shop—along with a growing group of regional visitors looking for fun activities around which they can build regular trips to Amador County. “A flea market gives you a good old time feeling,” says Torres.

The Old Sutter Creek Flea Market, a Tigby Hill Vintage event, will be held on the third Sunday of each month at the Italian Picnic Grounds at 581 State Hwy 49, Sutter Creek, CA 95685.

The market will be open to the public from 6am - 2pm. Admission for the public is $1 at the gate.

The first market will be held on Sunday, September 17, and it already has a dynamic list of sellers lined up—from antiques and vintage collectibles to hand-crafted local products.

Booth fees for vendors start at $25 for a 10 ft x 20 ft booth space.

New Products are not allowed.
Vendor set up is between 5 - 6am.
